Common terms of the Card Sharp

Run - Drawing off cards one at a time as you overhand shuffle them

Jog - A card protruding from the deck.  There are two types of jogs, the in jog (where the card protrudes towards the body) and the out jog (where the card protrudes away from the body).

Break - A space in the deck that you hold with one of your fingers such as your pinky or thumb.

Throw - To pass, from one hand to the other, a packet of cards, usually held by a break

Riffle - The custom manner of shuffling wherein the packet in your left hand is mixed into the packet in your right hand by letting your thumbs release one card at a time until the two packets lay on top of each other.

Cut - When the man to the right of the dealer removes the top packet of the deck and places the bottom packet on top of it

Shift / Pass - To return the deck to its original order before the cut was made

Bottom / Base Dealing - To draw a card off the bottom of the deck as if it were the top card

Dealing 2nds - To deal the second card in the deck as if it were the top card

Peeks - Methods of discreetly viewing certain cards in the deck without other palyers at the table seeing you do so

Muck  - To switch one or two cards for one or two others without any other players percieving you doing so

Palming - To conceal a card in your hand where other players cannot see it

Pegging - Fitting cards with blisters so that you can discreetly identify certain cards with your thumb

Culling - To maneuver certain cards to a desired location

Crimp - A bend in a card, created so that you can locate it at any time

Stock - A portion of a deck that contains specific cards you intend to use.  Often the cards have been culled to this stock
